Ssangcheongdang is a separate building constructed by Ssangcheongdang Songyu (1389∼1446 AD) who was a scholar in the early years of Joseon Dynasty and it was named after the pseudonym of Songyu, “Ssangcheong”. Although it had been repaired on numerous occasions since its construction in the 14th year of King Sejong (1432 AD), its original appearances are well-preserved.
The building has 3 rooms in the front and 2 on the side. One of the rooms pm the left in the front had ondol installed while the 2 rooms on the right were decorated as Daecheongmaru. Ssangcheongdang is a structure that illustrates the architectural style of early years of Joseon Dynasty with characteristic traditional multicolored paintwork on wooden building that cannot be found in other private residential buildings. It is also an important cultural asset in that it was one of the first building constructed among the similar separate buildings constructed at the time in the vicinity.
