It is the venue for expression of cultural confidence of Daedeok-gu, the root of Hanbat Culture, while paying tribute to the ideologies and academic achievements of Dongchundang. The events are aimed at remembering the communal spirit and attitudes of residents of the former Hoedeok towards voluntary services by re-establishing the status of Daedeok as the center that led the ideologies and politics of the country some 400 years ago, and providing venue for communication filled with history and culture by transcending the spatial and temporal barriers.
Dongchundang Cultural Festival is being held jointly with the events of the Day of Residents of Daedeok-gu on the first Saturday and Sunday of October every year. Dongchundang Cultural Festival, which has been held annually over 17 years as of 2012, is carried out with 28 events in 5 categories, namely, events on the Day of Residents of Daedeok-gu, traditional cultural events, Life-long study event, sharing events and experiencing events. Key events include Sungmojerye, experiencing of enrollment and studying at Hyanggyo, Gyeoncheon exposition competition, national calligraphy competition, reproduction of progression of Munjeonggonshihobongsong, street festival, festival for wishing of well-being of the residents of the municipality and LOHAS ecological theatrical play. Moreover, competitions between the administrative districts of the municipality and various experience events in commemoration of the Day of Residents of Daedeok-gu are held to provide abundance of things to see. It would be a wonderful opportunity to experience the true appearance of the city that leads in healthy and sustainable ecological studies along with the highly dignified traditional scholarly culture of Daedeok-gu, which is the root of Hanbat Culture.

  • Renowned scholar of Daedeok, Dongchundang Song, Jun Gil (1606~1672 AD)

    He was an illustrious statesman during the mid-era of Joseon Dynasty with numerous pseudonyms including Ja of Myeongbo, Ho of Dongchundang and Shiho of Munjeong. His family clan is based on Eunjin. He studied under Saegye Kim, Jang Saeng along with other students including Uam, Song Shi Yeol and Choryeo Lee Yoo Tae, and had wide range of important positions in the government including Ministry of War, Daesaheon, and Wuchamchan and Joachamchan, and participated in extensive range of state affairs including the plans to expedition to conquer the north and stabilization of lives of people.
