The ancient residence of Dongchun is the residence used by Song, Jun Gil after he has retired from public office as the Minister of War during the reign of King Hyojong (1649∼1659 AD) and is situated at the back of Dongchundang. As one enters the main gate on the left of Dongchundang, Sarangchae in the shapee of “一” and Anchae in the shape of “ㄷ” can be seen with Gamyo and Byeolmyo, which are ancestral shrine, situated to the right.
Sarangchae has 6 rooms in the front and 6 rooms on the side. Attic is situated above the kitchen with 1-room residence constructed in the front for the steward of the house who managed various affairs of the house to live in. Toitmaru was placed in front of the Daecheongmaru and main guest quarters, while Numaru with furnace underneath was construicted in front of the minor Sarangbang. Anchae is situated at the center of the buildings with wide Daecheongmaru with 3 rooms in the front and 2 on the side, Marubang with 2 rooms on the left, 1 main bedroom and 1 each of the children’s bedrooms. It is connected to the seamstress’s room for making of clothing and kitchen. Additional rooms including room to store cloths, storage room for kitchen ware and food items, and servants quarters are situated on the right side of the Daecheongmaru, thereby the entire building forming the shape of ‘ㄷ’. Both Gamyo and Byeolmyo have 3 rooms in the front and 2 on the side and with Matbae roof with shape of ‘人’ when viewed from the side.
