According to historical research, our ancestors have been living in the Hanbat region since the prehistoric era of Neolithic Era, and belonged to the border region of a tribal state, Mahan by the time of Bronze Age.

Usul-gun, Baekje
As the Baekje conquered Mahan and moved the seat of government to Gongju, it was referred to as Usul-gun and exercised enormous influences, becoming the strategic point of military powers among all the areas of the Three States.
Era of the unified Silla Dynasty

Bipoong-gun
As Silla succeeded in unification of the Three States, it came to belong to Bipoong-gun in accordance with the reorganization of the administrative zones of Ju, Gun and Hyeon by the 30th king of Silla, the King Munmu.
Era of Goryeo Dynasty
(1017 AD)
Gongju-mok, Gongju-gun
In the 9th year of reign of the 8th king of Goryeo, the King Hyeongjong, there was reorganization of administrative zones of Ju, Gun and Hyeon, and this region was place under the jurisdiction of Gongju-gun.
Era of Joseon Dynasty
(1413 AD)
Hoedeok-gun
With the onset of the Lee Dynasty that founded Joseon Dynasty, entire country was divided into 8 provinces in the 13th year of the founding king, King Taejong. This region belonged to Chungcheong Province and was given the name of Daejeon (Hanbat) along with change of names to Hoedeok-gun and Jinjam-gun.

1914.3.1 Installation of Daejeon-gun
Pursuant to the Japanese Government General of Korea order No. 111, merger of administration zones of Bu, Gun and Myeon of provinces was carried out and Daejeon-gu was established by merging Hoedeok-gun, Jinjam-gun and Hyeonnae-myeon of Gongju-gu, and the municipal government located in Hoedeok-eup was transferred to Daejeon (the present Won-dong)
1935.10.1 Creation of Daedeok-gun
Pursuant to the Japanese Government General of Korea order No. 112, the seat of provincial government of Chungcheongnam Province was transferred from Gongju to Daejeon-eup in 1932. With rapid growth, Daejeon-eup was promoted to administrative zone of ‘Bu’, and, accordingly, Daejeon-gun was abolished and Daegeok-gun was newly created as the remnant region of Daejeon-bu.
1949.8.15 Following liberation from the occupation by Japan, implementation of local autonomous governance law by the Law No. 32 changed the name of Daejeon-bu to Daejeon City, which came to have include Daedeok-gun as one of 1 city and 14 gun’s in Chungcheongnam Province under its administrative jurisdiction.
1963.1.1 Juristiction of some of the Daedeok-gun was transferred to Daejeon City pursuant to Law No. 1175. Yucheon-myeon, 3 Ri’s of Hoedeok-myeon (Daehwa-ri, Ojeong-ri, Yongcheon-ri), 4 Ri’s of Sannae-myeon (Okgye-ri, Samjeong-ri, Hodong-ri and Gao-ri) were merged into the Daejeon City

In addition to transfer of all the areas of Daedeok-gun with the exception of Namseon-ri among the 1-eup, 6-myeons and 81-beopjeongri, Daedeok autonomous district that has jurisdiction over 4 dongs in the region of Shintanjin and 8 administrative zones of Ojeong-dong, Daehwa-dong, Hoedeok-1-dong and Hoedeok-2-dong
1990.1.1 Division of the administrative zone of Jungri-dong
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 107 of Daedeok-gu, Hoedeok-2-dong was divided into Hoedeok-2-dong and Jungri-dong, thereby creating 9 administrative zones.
1991.9.1 Division of the administrative zone of Beop-dong
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 171 of Daedeok-gu, the Jungri-dong was divided into Jungri-dong and Beop-dong, thereby creating 10 administrative zones.
1995.1.1 Changed the name to Daedeok-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City
Pursuant to law No. 4789 and amendment of the Law on autonomous local government, the Daedeok-gu of Daejeon City under direct control of the central government was changed to Daedeok-gu, Daejeon Metropolitan City.
1996.1.1 Division of the administrative zone of Beop-2-dong
Pursuant to Ordinance No. 296 of Daedeok-gu, Beop-dong was divided into Beop-1-dong and Beop-2-dong, thereby creating 11 administrative zones.
2003.2.1 Name of Hoedeok-1-dong was changed to Hoedeok-dong, and Hoedeok-2-dong was divided into Birae-dong and Songchon-dong. Pursuant to Ordinance No. 574 of Daedeok-gu, name of Hoedeok-1-dong was changed to Hoedeok-dong and Hoedeok-2-dong was divided into Birae-dong and Songchon-dong, thereby creating the present 12 administrative zones and 26 legal zones.
