Daecheong Dam is a concrete gravity and rock-fill dam (composite type) completed in 1980 with total water reserve capacity of 1.49 trillion tons, supplying daily life and industrial water to the regions of Chungcheong including Daejeon, Cheongju and Cheonan, to some of the regions of Jeonbuk such as Gunsan and agricultural water to the downstream of Geum River and Miho lake basin. In addition, it plays important role in national economic growth by reducing the damages arising from flooding at the downstream of the dam through flood control and making the life of the residents more affluent by producing clean energy through hydro-power generation.
Due to construction of the dam, 26,000 residents of 4,075 households who lived in the areas being flooded by the Daecheong Lake had to be relocated from their homeland to the urban centers of Shintanjin and Daejeon, and as far as the landfill area and clustered settlement in industrial estate in Namyang, Visit the Daecheong Dam Aquatic Culture Center with your children to view the processes of construction of the dam at a glance.
